Improving wind turbine reliability to 99.5% will require new data analysis approaches across the industry as existing techniques won’t allow the sector to go above current reliability levels, according to Carsten Westergaard, senior advisor, Wind and Water at the Sandia National Laboratories and Professor of Practice at Texas Tech University.

Southern California municipal utility Burbank Water and Power (BWP) is looking to build a 300 MW compressed air energy storage (CAES) pilot facility at the Intermountain Power Project (IPP) site in Delta, Utah to control the intermittency of growing renewable energy capacity, Lincoln Bleveans, power resources manager at BWP, said during the Energy Storage USA 2015 conference on July 7.
